I would absolutely recommend this app to others! Portwood has easily hit the nail on the head when it comes to solving our Document Generation and E-Signature issues. I originally showed it to the team a few weeks ago and they were impressed, but the constant updates to this product with new features has astounded us! The Portwood document generation solution is one of the most exciting Salesforce apps to come along in years. I've been enthusiastically testing and using Portwood since its earliest days, and I'm constantly delighted to see community-driven feature requests (including a couple of my own) quickly incorporated into the package. A complete beginner can create professional-looking documents in literally minutes. No SOQL expertise or extensive design skills are required. What I most appreciate is how flexible the app is: you can invoke templates from a runner on a record page, configure buttons using CMDT, or use invocable Apex actions inside Flows to create and disseminate documents. For more advanced users, you can even "bring your own data" and construct documents from unrelated objects and records. This really opens up opportunities to create analytical artifacts with real business purpose, not just printouts. Many kudos to the Portwood team for a free solution the Salesforce ecosystem has needed for years.
DocGen solves a need for so many of my nonprofit clients that need a DocGen solution but can't afford one of the big name document generation solutions, especially if they need eSignature. DocGen is versatile and easy to configure. The team behind DocGen makes the solution even better. They're super responsive, encouraging and knowledgeable. As a independent consultant, having great support makes my life so much easier.
Recently participated in a Live Build Along and this app is very useful - I love how easy it is to use and it solves a real problem - being able to generate PDFs within Salesforce natively and for free is a game changer and if you need help implementing it they have reasonable rates. Dave offered a 2-hour demo, allowing a group of us to set up a template that will generate donor receipts automatically via a flow when an opportunity is turned to "closed won". If I can set up the template, create a button, and establish a flow, within a 2 hour group call and see the impact this app can have for so many non-profits, anyone can do it.
Just wrapped a live build-along with Dave, and I'm genuinely impressed. In less than two hours, we built a donation receipt that thanks the donor, breaks down the gift by fund, automatically writes the IRS acknowledgment, and includes a QR code inviting the next gift. Then we automated the whole thing so receipts generate and email themselves the moment a deal closes won. Free, open source, and genuinely powerful.

I'm blown away by the free features on Portwood doc gen. I was easily able to create a template with merge fields using their intuitive builder, then add the ability to generate a doc right to my opportunity using their package's buttons. The formatting options are robust, and if you'd rather, you can use an AI prompt to build your entire template for you. I will absolutely be recommending this app to clients. Document generation is a great pain point for any organization locked in agreements, api call counts or Doc Generation Tokens. The Portwood DocGen solution is an incredible service for the community, organizations and businesses. the fact that everything remains in the ORG and you dont need to coordinate different tools to get a document, its just amazing. The setup is very intuitive. the user guide is comprehensive. if you already have an infrastructure for DocGeneration setup, switching over is a breeze. if you dont, its not not a big deal. you can always ask for a PS session with the team and they will guide you through it. the Doc Generation itself is Blazing fast.
Pros: - The app is free, not freemium, not free trial, not free version... it's free. - A SF Admin can set up the DocGen templates just like any other mainstream DocGen tool in less than an hour and they have great documentation. - E-Sign setup is also available, I had a few questions on this and they have a very active Slack support channel to help and the owner responded to me directly. - Speaking of the owner Dave is fantastic, supporting Portwood gives you the chance to support a great person, running a great company doing good for the community. There really is no downside it'll just take a little convincing to let your team know that you truly don't need to spend any money to get this feature set and it's time to switch.
Did I mention it's free?! Oh also, it's an extremely powerful document generation tool that rivals some of the premium paid offerings on this very site. It's also very well supported, and in one example, the time from finding a bug to having it fixed and in a new version of the package was 24 hours! I can't say enough good things about Portwood's DocGen app - give it a try in a sandbox or Trailhead Playground, and I promise you'll want it it in your production instance ASAP.
Portwood DocGen is an impressive native Salesforce solution with document generation, Flow automation, bulk processing, and e-signatures—all free and open source. Dave has built a fantastic product for the Salesforce community. Highly recommended!
Looking at you Pandadoc, Conga, S-Docs... this tool not only has the ability to replace you... it's already happening. This tool is worth a look for any company out there paying for document generation. Easy to install and the support documentation is very clear and helpful.
Thanks Dave and Portwood for creating a phenomenal tool and giving it away! We have already used it to replace Conga for one client and certainly will use it for many more going forward!
This is what on platform document generation was meant to be. Great documentation and helpful support. It's an easy add for basic to even slightly complex document generation. What more do you need?
I've used multiple document generation products over the last 15 years. As an early adopter of Portwood, I've watched Dave take it from version 1.0 to where it's at now. It has delivered on edge case that the other tools struggled to meet (normally after Dave has said, "Yes we should be able to do that," And then delivered in the next release. Now an incredibly easy product to use, very well documented and going from strength to strength. Congratulations Dave.
